Cristina has been skiing for as long as she can remember and can’t think of anything she likes better in the world. She has been speaking French for just as long.
James is a dedicated road biker, a mountain biker, a photographer, former working holidays leader. James has been tackling the grueling Pyrenean climbs, the freewheeling descents and valley flats since we bought our mountain retreat in 2006.
We stumbled across Bagneres de Luchon at the end of a European road-trip looking for a place that would capture our hearts. After an addictive ski experience, we returned six months later for a taste of the summer season. By the end of our stay, we had bought ourselves a permanent spot in the town. We’ve been researching and exploring the area ever since. James on his selection of trusted steeds, Cristina with two children and a set of skis in tow. All of us with walking boots, picnics, water bottles and maps at the ready. We’ve tried out lots of other mountain pursuits along the way too.
We’re intoxicated by the Pyrenees. Everyone who comes here is. So, in 2014, we upped styx for a while to renovate our dishevelled home for others to enjoy too. What you see on these pages is the result of James’s hard work and our dogged determination to make it happen. It wasn’t an easy journey. We’re still settling back into life in the UK. We miss our mountain views. We’re proud of what we achieved. If you like the look of Luchon and our house by the waterfall, drop us a line.
